Somalia has suffered from one of the world’s most complex and longest running political and civil conflicts. In this sense, women, youth and children have been trapped in a seemingly endless cycle of intractable violence, both as active participants and routine victims.   Somalia’s demographic profile shows 81.5 percent of the population below the age of 30, of which 67% are unemployed, and those between 14 – 24 constitute 42%, making the country arguably one of the youngest nations in the world (Somalia national development plan-2017, UNFPA-2014).

From a demographic point of view, this calls for Somali National Youth Policy towards the recognition and the support of Women and Youth in Somalia to harness their critical role by building accountable and participatory governance, employment opportunities through financial Inclusion, capacity for quality education and Skills development, health and well-being, leadership skills, empowerment and entrepreneurship.
